En el 2011, Aaron y Bryce Dessner, miembros de la banda The National anunciaron que trabajarían en un álbum tributo a la influyente agrupación Grateful Dead. Han ido constantemente dando actualizaciones sobre el estado de la producción, pero recientemente se dio a conocer la masiva lista de artistas que interpretaron las 59 canciones que conformarán Day Of The Dead, un triple álbum de 6 horas de duración.

Conformado por covers de artistas como The National, Local Natives, The Flaming Lips, Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Tunde Adebimpe (TV on the Radio), Unknown Mortal Orchestra, y más (muchos más), el maxi-álbum tiene como valor agregado que el dinero recaudado en las ventas de este álbum irán a los fondos de la fundación para el SIDA, Red Hot Organization, algo similar a Dark Was The Night, un álbum compilatorio en el que trabajaron los hermanos Dessner junto con otros artistas en el 2009.
